The Donkeymentary

Voices behind the path.

Three places in the game draw on interviews collected for The Donkeymentary. The English entries retell testimony; they are not verbatim translations. Their Arabic headings are editorial titles.

A reason to stop

Tony describes a donkey stopping on a path and insists there is a reason for its refusal. The game gives the animal time to pause; it does not turn this account into a universal scientific claim.

Who made the path?

In Maaser RC_1, a caretaker recalls an elder saying that donkeys open paths, then describes following a donkey to make a trail. He is unsure about the village: Tannourine is a possibility in the recording, not a confirmed attribution.

Source passage: Maaser RC_1.mp3, 15:32–17:02. Journal audio: 15:45–16:32, 47 seconds.

The mukari’s red donkey

A storyteller recalls a mukari visiting a house while young men dye his grey donkey red. The man then fails to recognise his own donkey. The game keeps this as a remembered anecdote. It neither names the uncertain dye plant nor presents the story as independently proven history.

The red donkey in this story does not explain the filmmaker’s childhood drawing. That question remains open.

Source: Maaser RC_1.mp3, 26:30–28:06, 96 seconds. The corresponding story appears at 49:23–50:50 in the consolidated interview working transcript.

About this adaptation

The terrain is composed for play from Lebanese mountain paths and terraces. It is not a survey or reconstruction of Tannourine. The transcripts used are working machine transcriptions, not certified transcripts. The summaries deliberately leave out uncertain names, dates, plant identifications and exact quotations.

The audio uses the original interview recordings, with no synthetic voice and no internal rearrangement. Excerpt boundaries were chosen from the source timecodes.
