The Donkeymentary moves through the mountains of Lebanon, from the donkey rescue farms of the Chouf, Beit Chabeb and Jouwar el Hoz to the working highlands of Tannourine, to sit with the most ridiculed creature in the Arabic language. In long takes and natural light, we discover that these animals built the country's roads and carried its harvests for millennia.

Then the world turns: the asphalt comes, and with it cars and tractors, and the donkey becomes worthless. But it refuses to disappear. The sick are nursed back, a silent child learns to breathe beside it, and what carried us for five thousand years now, quietly, begins to heal us.

يعبر «أحمر فيلم» جبال لبنان، من مزارع إنقاذ الحمير في الشوف وبيت شباب وجوار الحوز إلى مرتفعات تنّورين حيث ما زالت الحمير تعمل، ليجلس مع أكثر مخلوقٍ يُسخَر منه في اللغة العربية. بلقطاتٍ طويلة وضوءٍ طبيعي، نكتشف أنّ هذه الحيوانات شقّت طرقات البلد وحملت مواسمه آلاف السنين.

ثم ينقلب العالم: يصل الإسفلت ومعه السيارات والجرّارات، ويفقد الحمار قيمته. لكنّه يرفض أن يختفي. يُداوى المريض منها، ويتعلّم طفلٌ صامت أن يتنفّس إلى جانبه، وما حملنا خمسة آلاف سنة يبدأ اليوم، بهدوء، بمداواتنا.
